Ashni Eats World: September Restaurant List
/Well, summer may be coming to a close, but on the bright side a new month means a new list of restaurant recommendations! I’m so excited to share some of my current favorites with you.
Reminder: if you plan on indoor dining don’t forget to bring proof of vaccination!
Kokomo
In addition to brunch and dinner this Caribbean influenced restaurant also offers a reverse happy hour from 10-11pm as well as a small bites menu available Thursday- Sunday until midnight! Kokomo blends traditional Caribbean flavors with modern ones — and best of all their menu has great vegan options. Of course, I can’t forget about the amazing music, which gives the place an exciting energy!
Rangoon
Rangoon brings comfort Burmese cuisine to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park! Both their dinner and brunch menus offer great options for those who are vegan or gluten free. My favorites were the garlic noodles and the tamarind pumpkin stew.
Collective Retreat
If you’re looking for a dinner that makes you feel like you escaped the hustle and bustle of NYC, you have to try this place! Located in Governor’s Island, Collective Retreat offers a unique getaway experience. While Collective Retreat is actually a luxury glamping hotel, you don’t have to book a staycation to enjoy Collective Retreat’s dining. The only way to get to this hidden gem is by water taxi and golf cart (both included in your reservation), and after dinner you can enjoy a DIY s’mores kit by the campfire while overlooking the stunning skyline. It truly is a way to reconnect with nature while still being so close to the heart of the city.
Via Carota
One of my favorite pasta spots in the West Village, Via Carota is the perfect place to people watch over a delicious plate of cacio e pepe. The sides are also incredible, especially the fried artichoke! Unfortunately, Via Carota doesn’t take reservations — so you’ll have to try your luck at snagging a table.
Mamo
Okay, Mamo might have the best plate of truffle pasta I’ve had in New York and that’s saying A LOT. It is $50 a plate, but I honestly think it’s SO worth it. Not only is the truffle flavor just perfect (*chef’s kiss*), the raviolis are so cute and tiny that I’m truly still not over it. I’m adding Mamo’s truffle ravioli to the list of foods I would ask for as my last meal.
Le Grande Boucherie
While I can’t take a monthly trip to Paris, I do take a bimonthly trip to Le Grande Boucherie. The team behind NYC’s Boucherie opened their fourth restaurant at the end of last year and I can’t get enough. The interior is so stunning and grand, it’ll make you forget you’re in the middle of midtown. I usually stop by here in the middle of the day for some coffee or on the weekend for brunch!
Thursday Kitchen
Thursday Kitchen is a place that never disappoints! Thursday Kitchen is run by Chef Kay Hyun who combines her Korean heritage with French techniques which creates really wonderful family style tapas dishes. My favorites are the edamame dumplings and the ugly potato. The drinks here are served in Capri Sun-like pouches and they even have neon ice cubes in them to make them light up! They also don’t take reservations, so make sure to get there early to get a table.
I hope you enjoy these restaurants as much as I did! XO
