RECIPE: High Protein Rose Lassi
/I’m so excited to share one of my favorite recipes with you guys! This high protein rose lassi is my go-to drink for when I’m craving something sweet and refreshing, but still need to get my protein intake for the day. Can you believe this rose lassi has almost 50 grams of protein?!?! (I break down where the protein comes from below) As most of y’all know, I’ve been strength training almost every day for the last several months. So I’ve really had to increase how much protein I have in my diet, and this high protein rose lassi has been a game-changer!
Ingredients:
1 cup Nonfat Greek Yogurt (18 grams of protein)
2 tablespoons rose syrup
1 cup water
2-3 scoops of vanilla protein powder (20-30 grams of protein, depending on what protein you use)
6-8 dried rose petals
3-4 ice cubes
I use Wegmans Nonfat Greek Yogurt, but any brand should work. Every Desi household I’ve been to uses Rooh Afza rose syrup, so I’m not sure if any other brand even exists? But if they do, any rose syrup will do! I know people are really picky about their protein powder, and I’m no expert — but I use Protein World’s vegan vanilla protein powder and I love it. I didn’t specify exactly how much protein powder to use, because it really depends on how that specific powder mixes with the yogurt and lassi flavor, so you may just need to do a little bit of playing around with the quantity of protein if you use a different brand. I ordered this big bag of dried rose petals from Amazon of course, and now I sprinkle dried rose petals on literally everything to elevate my solo quarantine dining experience.
This recipe makes one serving of the high protein rose lassi, and it’ll be closer to the size of a large protein shake than a lassi — but it’s so good, you’ll finish it in no time!
Instructions:
1) Add the protein powder to the water and shake the mixture well until the powder is completely dissolved. I do this step separately to make sure the protein powder is mixed in really well.
2) Throw the water and protein powder mixture into the blender and add the rest of the ingredients.
3) Taste the lassi to make sure the protein powder isn’t too overpowering and adjust! Since every protein powder is different, the result will be different for everyone. If it’s too chalky, add water or chilled milk and blend again. If it’s too sweet add a little more nonfat greek yogurt.
4) Garnish with dried rose petals or crushed pistachios and drink!
